Assignment (I will do this activity in class)

1. Your assignment is to create a RSS feed based on content from the podcast(s) you created in this module.

2. Use RSS file example in CE6 to use as a template to edit for your own RSS feed. Point it to the mp3 for your first episode.

2b. Validate your RSS feed/file at Feed Validator.

3. Upload the finished RSS feed to your web space along with your Episode 1 MP3 file.

4. Post a link to your xml file in CE6 Discussions

5. Subscribe to your feed using another podcatcher tool or RSS reader.

Your assignment is to create a RSS feed based on content from your podcast series. In other words, you will create an RSS feed that points to your mp3 files. Use the RSS feed sample (575.txt) file to use as a template to edit for your own RSS feed. Point it to the mp3 for your first episode. Validate your RSS feed/file and upload the finished RSS feed (.xml file) to the designated web space along with your Episode 1 MP3 file. Subscribe to your feed using iTunes U or another podcatcher tool/RSS reader. Post a link to your feed i.e., .xml file, or the iTunes U Store link in CE6 Discussions.

Movement 1: The MP3 File

  1. Install Audacity
  2. Check Audio Settings
  3. Record Audio in Audacity
  4. Save Audacity Project File
  5. Export Audio as MP3
  6. Find the Lame Encoder
  7. Edit ID3 tags
  8. Upload to Server with FTP
    • Once Connected, Find your folder
    • Transfer Files from Local to Remote Computer

Movement 2: The RSS Feed

  1. from RSS Feed folder on the Homepage (Do Not Open the file by Double clicking on the File -- Instead, Edit using Notepad)
  2. How to Edit RSS podcast feed
  3. Save the File as YOURNAME.xml
  4. Upload the File to your folder on the Server
  5. Validate the feed using FeedValidator.org

Movement 3: The Blue Dot

  1. Open up iTunes
  2. Click on Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast
  3. Type in the address of your feed:
  4. Example: http://mason.gmu.edu/~rreo/575.xml
  5. If you see a blue dot appear next to your podcast... then Yeah!
